Cadet Sea Ranger Tegan Lscombe, aged 12, attended Buckingham Palace on Monday 18th April to present a card she designed for the Sea Ranger Association to celebrete the 90th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen, as part of the competition for the Betty Kitt trophy.

The winning designer is a Cadet Sea Ranger fron SRS Churchill in Brixham, Devon. Her design features images of Sea Rangers taking part in activities such as sailing, camping and canoeing, and the central image is a photograph of Her Majesty in her Sea Ranger uniform in the 1940s.

After making the long journey from Devon up to London, we arrived very tired but excited on Sunday evening. Once we found the hotel we had time to go and do some sightseeing. London is very busy compared to our smail seaside town so it was a bit of a shock to be in the hustle and bustle of city life. We found our way around and most importantly we found our meeting place for the next morning.

On Monday morning we dressed smartly in our uniforms and set off to The Queen`s Galerry. We were looking forward to seeing Tegan`s design produced into a proper greetings card and it didn`t disappoint, it looked fantastic! We waited nervously for our appointment time, it was really busy at Buckingham Palace due to changing of the guard taking place. At 11,30am we antered the side entrance to the palace where it had been arranged we`d meet Christopher Sandamas, The Chief Clerk, HM Private Secretary`s Office who accepted the card on behalf on The Quen. We were thrifled to know that it would be delivered to the Queen that evening in the red box, he thought it was a lovely card and would bring back fond memories of her Sea Ranger years. We spoke for a short time about Sea Rangers past and present and he was very interested to hear about us.
