Our programme

Each crew is entirely self-supporting and runs their own programme of activities and events, based upon the Sea Ranger Association’s badge scheme, qualifications and achievement levels. The girls are also able to take part and gain national governing body (NGB) qualifications or awards (RYA, BCU, First Aid Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards). They also take part in national and flotilla events and competitions.

There is a separate programme of awards and badges for the Cadet Sea Ranger and Sea Ranger sections. These are based on nautical and life learning skills and each will enable the girls to develop leadership and communication skills which will help them both within their crew and in their daily lives.

Activities range from cooking to craft activities, knotting, camp craft or communication skills such as VHF radio, and understanding our historical naval background and the skills used in the past like semaphore or Morse code. The girls will also have an opportunity to learn a variety of boating skills which can range from kayaking and open canoeing to rowing and sailing. These activities will depend upon the facilities of individual crews, but all our crews are given opportunities to experience a variety of boating skills at our national and flotilla events, and have access to our boating base, offshore sailing providers and a 50-foot narrowboat.
